Manchester United have become favourites to sign Gunners midfielder Mesut Ozil after he reportedly had a fallout with manager Unai Emery, according to the Daily Star.
The 30-year-old playmaker was left on the bench for the entirety of the Gunners 2-1 win over Bournemouth with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Matteo Guendouzi coming off the bench.
Emery later explained that he feared the former German international couldn’t handle the physicality of the opponents.
The decision suggests that the midfielder who earlier in the year became the highest paid Gunner in history is no longer guaranteed of a regular starting spot at Arsenal.
As a result, the bookies have slashed the odds for him to move to United. Speaking to the media, the spokesman of Coral, John Hill said:
“After being dropped to the bench against Bournemouth, punters have been rushing in to back Mesut Ozil to leave Arsenal in January where the betting suggests it is Manchester United who are the favourites to land the German midfielder.”
Ozil who recently retired from the German national team in controversial circumstances after the World Cup in Russia, was handed the captain’s band for the previous four Premier League games before being dropped for the Bournemouth game.
Explaining his decision not to bring him on during the game, Emery said after the match:
“We thought how we can be better in the match, a very demanding match with physicality and intensity and then we decided.
“Every player is important but today we tried with three at centre-back and it was another possibility for us to improve and find our best performance as a team.”Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
