West Ham vs Man City: Team News and Match Preview

Manchester City – Team News

Bernardo Silva will miss out this weekend after picking up a knock over the international break, while Friday’s press conference also brought news that Benjamin Mendy is set to miss 10-12 weeks with the knee injury that forced his withdrawal from the France squad.

Fabian Delph, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Danilo are the options to replace the sidelined Frenchman at left-back.

With Kevin De Bruyne (knee) still unavailable, Ilkay Gundogan could get a first start since Gameweek 6 in central midfield in Bernardo’s stead, though Phil Foden is another option.

Guardiola reported no other fresh injury worries on Friday, with Nicolas Otamendi (tendon) having returned to training this week.

Leroy Sane could be the beneficiary of Mendy’s absence on the left flank to bring some natural width to that side of the pitch, though Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez both have excellent claims to the wide positions after their excellent form before the international break.

Sergio Aguero again didn’t feature for Argentina, so will be well-rested ahead of a busy few weeks and months for the Citizens.

Vincent Kompany and, if completely fit, Otamendi are alternatives to John Stones at centre-back, meanwhile.

West Ham United – Team News

Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere have trained all week with the West Ham squad after recovering from injury and could come into contention for the visit of Manchester City, with Manuel Pellegrini saying in Thursday’s press conference that a final decision on the squad list will be made on Friday.

Carroll is perhaps a step ahead of Wilshere in his recovery, having featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly over the international break, but the likeliest scenario for both players is a place among the substitutes at best.

Robert Snodgrass will be suspended for one match after collecting five yellow cards, so Mark Noble could take his place in central midfield having returned from his own three-game ban.

Grady Diangana was hooked at half-time in the draw with Huddersfield a fortnight ago but may get a stay of execution on the right flank, with Snodgrass unavailable.

Michail Antonio is the only real available alternative out wide. Lucas Perez and Javier Hernandez would appear set to warm the bench again with Marko Arnautovic seemingly fit after returning from international duty.

Ryan Fredericks (shin) has joined Andriy Yarmolenko (Achilles), Winston Reid (knee), Manuel Lanzini (knee) and Carlos Sanchez (knee) on the long-term injury list, so Pablo Zabaleta’s place at right-back looks fairly secure for now.
