Arsenal are interested in Bahia 18 year old midfielder Ramires and have sent scouts to watch him, according to Brazilian radio Rádio Metropole.
Arsenal have a reputation for their focus on developing young talents over the years. It was a hallmark of the Arsene Wenger days, and it seems like it would continue under new manager Unai Emery.
The have registered interest in, and are monitoring the young Brazilian midfielder who plays for Bahia in the Brazilian League.
The player’s agent and club vice president have both confirmed the interest from Arsenal but they also indicate that there has been no official bid made yet.
Vice president Vitor Ferraz revealed that the player has been watched by Arsenal recently “Its a period when evaluations are constantly made and it’s normal for this type of approach to arrive, that scouts come here and evaluate the athlete more closely and we are aware of all this.” He said.
Despite being just 18, he has established himself in Bahia’s first team this season and has impressed. He is believed to be valued at around €10-15 million by his club.
The Gunners already have a very good youth core, with the likes of Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe flying their academy’s flag high.
Ramires would fit right in, and should he be signed in January, he would have enough time to bed into a new country and style of play.
