Petr Cech has revealed he is disappointed that we failed to secure all three points against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
We were held at home to a goalless draw by a resilient Boro side who had several chances to nick a win but for the intervention of Cech we managed to pick up one point from the game.
We struggled to make any impact at Boro’s end with our best highlight being Ozil’s goal that was ruled out for offside.
Cech has now revealed he is disappointed that we couldn’t stretch clear at the summit. Tottenham was held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth on Saturday’s early kickoff and Cech was hoping we would secure a win to create a small gap between ourselves and Spurs but that didn’t happen as we also dropped points.
“We are disappointed more that Tottenham dropped points and we wanted to open the gap even more, and there are big games tomorrow as well,” Cech said on Saturday.
“Some teams are going to drop points, so we wanted to take advantage of that but it wasn’t to be. But there is a long way to go, I think that we are in a good position and we are in a good shape as well.”
However, the draw was enough for us to remain in the top three along with Liverpool and Manchester City who sit ahead of us on goal difference. but looking down, we are just one point ahead of fifth placed Tottenham, meaning a win against Boro would have pulled us ahead of the pack which could have been a good platform to build on as we aim to win the league title.
However, there is still a long way to go and we will definitely have another good opportunity, hopefully we can take it next time.
