Arsenal and AS Roma are close to reaching an agreement on the future of Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports.
The goalkeeper has been linked with a return to Roma and it seems the deal could be finalized in the next few days.
According to Italian publication Gazza Mercato via the Daily Star, Arsenal have no intention of bringing the goalkeeper back to the Emirates this summer and would allow the Poland international stay with the Italian club.
The report even claims Roma would attempt to make the keeper’s move permanent and Arsenal could demand as much as £15m for the 26 year old.
Szczesny has always reiterated his desire to remain at the Italian club and would be happy with recent development.
The goalkeeper’s contract at Arsenal doesn’t expire until 2018 and we definitely have the upper hand during negotiation.
Szczesny joined Arsenal at the age of 16, he progressed through the club’s youth ranks into the first team and was considered as the club’s future no 1. However, the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea has since changed things and it appears both Arsenal and Szczesny are happy for the goalkeeper to remain at Rome.
He made 42 appearances for the Italian side last term helping them to 3rd position on the Serie A table.
