Chelsea are close to signing Brazilian playmaker Alex Teixeira, according to reports.
According to the Daily Star, the Blues have “verbally agreed” a deal with Alex Teixeira and the uncapped Brazilian will be the club’s first singing of the winter transfer window.
The report claims the West London club is now locked in negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk and a fee of £30m is likely to be agreed by both clubs.
Teixeira has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the beginning of the season and it was thought the striker was Jose Mourinho’s priority signing. Despite sacking Mourinho last week, the club is still keen to sign the playmaker and are close to completing the necessary transactions that will see the player head to Stamford bridge in a matter of weeks.
The Brazilian has scored 26 goals in 26 appearances for the Ukrainian outfit and is currently one of the most prolific players in Europe at the moment.
The Blues have struggled to score goals this season and the game against Sunderland was the first time the Blues scored three goals in a match since Everton in September. Teixeira will inject the much needed goal threat to the Blues squad and could be key as they try to challenge for the top four in the second half of the season.
