Everton Boss Roberto Martinez insists that star defender John Stones will not be sold in the January transfer window, dashing any hope of Chelsea signing the defender.
The Blues were reportedly interested in signing the 21 year old when the transfer window opens next month after seeing their team concede 26 goals in their first 16 matches.
The Blues had identified Stones as a long term replacement for John Terry who is struggling to replicate his last season form.
Speaking on the defender’s future, Martinez said:
‘It doesn’t matter if Chelsea come back in for him. We created a squad to see how far we could go over 10 months. January doesn’t come into consideration.
‘We’ll never lose anyone in January — unless it’s somebody who hasn’t been playing and we need to find a solution. If he’s a top performer, it’s not even a consideration.’
“I think the uncertainty comes in the summer, where everyone speaks about possibilities.
“January is a window to solve problems with players who are not featuring as often as they feel they should, or to bring in players from a lower league to give them an opportunity.”
According to Sportsmail, Stones is not planning on leaving Everton in January and he is keen to remain at the club until the summer. The players desire to stay along with the club’s desire not to sell has surely ruled out any possibility of the Blues signing the defender in January.
