Manchester United winger Ashley Young is surprised by his recent axing from the first team by boss Louis Van Gaal, according to reports. The former Watford and Aston Villa winger has had no explanation from the Dutchman for dropping him in recent games.
Van Gaal has opted for Nick Powell, Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have been preferred in the midfield or full back positions with Young not injured but on the bench. The 30 year old last started a game for United against Leicester City in a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium on November 28th and was adjudged to be at fault for Jamie Vardy’s goal.
Young was one if the most improved and useful player under Van Gaal’s first season at Old Trafford, he featured as a wing back, winger on either the left or on the right hand side and was instrumental in covering for the Red Devils during injury hit periods.
Van Gaal should reinstate Young into the team as he is more productive than Memphis Depay who has failed to sparkle since his big money over from PSV Eindhoven. Young has played at both left and right hand side of defence; he deserves a better treatment than what Van Gaal’s currently doing to him.
