Rooney, Smalling & Depay STARTS! – Manchester United STARTING XI vs Norwich

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera have trained for the past week and could be back in contention for the Norwich.

The Dutchman is typically cautious with players returning from injury, though, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll start with any of the trio.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss out again as he serves the second of a three-match ban; that will likely see Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini continue in central midfield.

Van Gaal has also confirmed that Ashley Young was only fit enough for the bench last week and is a doubt, with Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson possibly retaining the full-back berths.

Elsewhere in defence, fit-again Phil Jones could make a return to the starting XI. Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Jesse Lingard and Matteo Darmian all remain absent through injury.
