Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic this season; following the arrival of Jurgen Klopp to Anfield.
Subotic is one of the Dortmund stars rumoured to be on Klopp’s radar and he looks a more realistic acquisition compared to other Dortmund players in Klopp’s agenda due to his lack of game time at Dortmund under current coach Tuschel. Mat Hummels, Marcos Reus and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang all look highly unlikely to switch from Dortmund to Liverpool.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc recently hinted at a January departure for Subotic, describing his peripheral role at the club as an ‘’unusual and difficult situation.’’ Jurgen Klopp is in need of another centre back heading towards the January transfer window due to injury to Mamadou Sakho who is expected to be out for over a month and the lack of assurance on Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel’s partnership.
Klopp and Subotic have a long history together, the German coach brought Subotic to Mainz as a teenager in 2006 before the Serbian joined Klopp again at Borussia Dortmund in 2008. His aggressive nature and good positional sense would see him thrive at Liverpool if he eventually makes the move to re-unite with Klopp for a third time.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
