Liverpool and Real Madrid are expected to open talks over a transfer for Denis Cheryshev in the coming weeks. Reds boss Jürgen Klopp is keen to make changes to his squad this January and is reportedly eyeing the Russian winger as one of his top targets on loan.
Cheryshev has previously impressed during a loan spell with Villarreal and is looking for another move this winter after struggling for playing time at the Bernabue. The Reds lost Raheem Sterling to Manchester City in the summer and could do with more attacking midfield options as they look to win back a place in the top four.
Cheryshev is a very interesting prospect in European football, in that he is a rare Russian abroad. In the Premier league era very few Russians have been able to have positive impact the league; Andre Arshavin has a good stint with Arsenal, Roman Pavlyuchenko played for Spurs, Andrei Kanchelskis represented Man United and had a wonderful career with the Red Devils and Everton enjoyed Diniyar Bilyaletdinov enjoyed a short but fruitful spell at Everton in Goodison Park.
But 24 years old Cheryshev is a more intriguing case due to his having spent the majority of his life in Spain, and I fact he once described himself as feeling as feeling ‘’more Spanish than Russian.’’Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
