Brazilian attacking midfielder Douglas Costa has revealed why he turned down Chelsea for Barcelona.
The 25 year old revealed he turned down a switch to Stamford Bridge because he desperately wanted to work with Bayern Boss Pep Guardiola.
The 25 year old had been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge since last winter transfer window, he publicly voiced his admiration and desire to work with Jose Mourinho but the attacking midfielder didn’t take too long to make up his mind when the Bundesliga champions came calling last summer.
The player revealed: “Chelsea also wanted to sign me. They were seriously interested and made great efforts,” Douglas Costa told Bild.
“But I really only wanted to work with Guardiola and join Bayern.
“I made a conscious decision to join Bayern because of the presence of Guardiola. I was convinced that I would learn more at Bayern under Guardiola.”
The Brazilian international joined Bayern Munich last summer from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The midfielder is now a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s side. He has already featured 12 times for the Bundesliga champions, scoring two goals and creating seven more goals for his teammates.
Chelsea could have signed the Brazilian last January but Mourinho opted to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina.
