Sam Allardyce will be unable to call upon Sebastian Larsson and Jermain Defoe for the trip to Arsenal, with the Swede ruled out with a knee injury, while Defoe is nursing a hamstring problem.
Jack Rodwell is also unavailable due to a minor knock, so it could be Jordi Gomez who benefits, with the Spaniard likely to start alongside Lee Cattermole in central midfield. Should Big Sam continue with the 3-5-2 favoured in recent weeks, Yann M’Vila should also start in the middle of the park, but perhaps playing slightly deeper than in recent weeks given the opposition.
Billy Jones is available again after serving a one-match ban: he could replace DeAndre Yedlin at right wing-back, with Patrick van Aanholt expected to continue on the opposite flank.
After scoring as a substitute last weekend, Duncan Watmore could partner Steven Fletcher in attack, although the more experienced Fabio Borini will also come into the equation, as could Adam Johnson and Danny Graham.
Following back-to-back clean sheets, Sebastian Coates, John O’Shea and Younes Kaboul are expected to form the back three once again.
