Manchester united legend Paul Scholes has slammed his former side’s lack of quality. United hope of qualifying for the Champions League was left hanging by a thread after they laboured to a 0-0 draw with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford last Wednesday night.
United’s attacking play was poor, especially in the second half; as PSV Eindhoven were rarely under any serious danger. The first half performance was fairly okay; as the Red Devils carved out few goal scoring opportunities that they failed to utilise.
Scholes said: ‘’There was a real lack of quality in the final third. You can defend as well as you want but if you don’t have those forward players who can create a bit of magic, then you’re going to struggle. You look at these teams across Europe, your Barcas and your Bayern. It’s your forward that make the difference.’’,
It is stated that attack is the best form of defence, but right now; Louis Van Gaal don’t possess the quality of attacker that Barcelona and Bayern possess. In truth, how many teams do? Louis Van Gaal’s Red Devils may not be playing the best football at the moment but the Dutch man is trying to mould a winning side with players that are currently available at his disposal. United are 3rd in the league table and are just 1 point behind table toppers; Man City and Leicester city respectively and Qualification into the knockout stage is not impossible as Wolfsburg are very beatable in Germany while there is no guarantee that CSKA cannot spring a surprise in the Netherlands against PSV Eindhoven.
