Manchester United are still hoping to sign Harry Kane despite contract talks between the player and Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
Manchester United were interested in signing the England striker last summer and the Red Devils were prepared to pay a fee of £50million for his services but Spurs weren’t interested in selling their prized asset.
Spurs have opened talks over a new contract with the striker but Manchester United are still hoping to sign the striker.
The striker signed a new contract worth £35,000 a week in February but the North London club wants to double the striker’s wages as a result of his growing importance in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Tottenham are not interested in selling the 22 year old and won’t entertain any offer for the striker as they hope to challenge for a top four spot and compete in the Champions League next season.
Chelsea are also interested in the striker but Pochettino has moved to dismiss reports linking the striker to Stamford Bridge.
“I am happy that a big club want our player – this is because they show they are a top player with top performances,”
Pochettino said. “It is good when they are linked.
“But Harry, like Hugo [Lloris], wants to stay here. He is one of the best players and he is very happy. He wants to grow up with us and try the next few years to try for the top four and win titles with Tottenham. This is his challenge.”
Kane scored 31 goals for Spurs last season and has scored 10 times in 19 appearances already this term.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
