Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto, according to reports.
The 23 year midfielder has shown for the Catalan giants this term and he is now regarded as an important member of the club’s first team.
The blues have scouted the midfielder on various occasions and has been monitoring the 23 year old since 2012.
Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas was interested in signing Roberto in 2012 but the Blues had all their bids knocked back.
The midfielder’s form this season has attracted scouts from Chelsea and Barcelona are keen to turn down any offer should the Blues put in an official bid for the midfielder.
The Daily Star reports that Barcelona are keen to offer Sergi Roberto a new contract in order to ward off interest from the premier league champions.
Roberto’s release clause is reportedly at £21.5million but Luis Enrique is keen to increase the midfielder’s clause to £32million.
Cesc Fabregas has received criticisms from both fans and pundits for his poor form this term and the Blues are keen to bring in a midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad.
Chelsea currently sit 14th on the premier league table and are hoping to bring in reinforcements in January as they hope to challenge for a top four spot.
