Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has blasted the club’s current midfield of lacking the required cutting edge to compete at the highest level. United snapped up Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton for £25 Million and Bastian Schweinsteiger for £6-7 Million which appears to be a bargain, judging from the Germans credentials and abilities in the game.
Both central midfielders were identified by Van Gaal to bolster his squad following the difficulties his team endured when Michael Carrick was sidelined through injury last season. Ferdinand wrote in his Sun column ‘’if I’m a central midfielder facing Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, I would not be worried. They pose zero threat.
Bastian Schweinsteiger answered Ferdinand Criticism in the same Manner with which he answered Paul Scholes last week; by scoring a goal.
The German moved from the Bundesliga to the Premiership so its expected it would take time to get a grasp of the style of the English league and an experience player such as Ferdinand could not figure that out because he spent his entire career in England and so cannot tell that it takes time to acclimatize to new environment.
Schneiderlin is playing in the biggest club of his career and arguably one of the biggest teams in the world where weight of expectation is high and intense; he has the quality to succeed at United; he just needs time and encouragement.
Both Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger have scored 1 and 2 goals respectively in competitive matches for United.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
