Chelsea star Gary Cahill is set to be offered a new contract, according to reports.
The defender’s current deal at Chelsea expires at the end of next season and the blues are keen to tie the England international to a new deal despite his indifferent performances for the blues this term.
The defender turns 30 in December and with the club’s policy of offering just one year contract to players already 30 years and above, the defender was reportedly worried about his contract situation at Stamford bridge.
However, Calciomercato (via the Metro) now claims that the defender is close to agreeing a contract extension with the blues.
Chelsea are keen to increase the number of English players in their squad and with John Terry getting closer to the end of his career, the club see Cahill as a very important member of their set up.
Cahill on the other hand is keen to spend the rest of his career at Chelsea and will be happy to sign a long term contract extension should the club offer him the chance before his 30th birthday.
Cahill joined Chelsea from Bolton in January 2012 and has since then won the premier league, Champions league and League cup with Chelsea.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
