Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is happy that he decided not to join Chelsea in 2013.
The keeper personally rejected a switch to Chelsea in 2013 despite his former club already accepting a £3.5million bid.
Butland then moved to Stoke City where he believed he had a better chance of making the first team but he was stuck on the bench last season due to the superb performances of Asmir Begovic.
However Asmir Begovic’s move to Chelsea in the summer gave the Butland the chance to be Stoke’s first choice keeper and the 22 year old has impressed since the beginning of the season.
The goalkeeper is one of the best in the premier league this season and as a result of his superb performances at Stoke he has earned 2 caps for the England national team.
“I never regretted my decision,” said Butland
“Whenever you move you want to get into the team and make an impression straight away.
“It was difficult to start with, but I never lost my head or enthusiasm, I knew it was going to come around, I just needed to show it.
“It’s taken a while, but I’m really happy with how things are. I’m 22, it would have been wrong of me to look for first-team football at 19.
“Maybe I would have bitten off a bit more than I could chew. It’s a blessing in disguise.
“I’ve had a lot of opportunities to work with great keepers since I’ve been here. I feel I’ve improved even before the start. I feel I’ve come a long way as a goalkeeper and that’s with the players I’ve worked with, the coaches have made me better.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
