Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-JOACHIM Watzke stated that German international player Mats Hummels was joining Man United last spring, the BVB Chief admits they are still fighting off rival clubs for their best players.
Watzke concedes that Mats Hummels was joining Manchester United but in the end, He is still with the club and he is pretty sure that it will be the something like that again in January but Dortmund would still fight for every one of their stars to remain at the club by fighting tooth and claws to do that.
United were heavily linked with the German World Cup winner under former coach; David Moyes and it looked like a deal could be struck soon before the deal failed to materialise and the player remained with Dortmund. Hummels is a fantastic and calculative defender but he would struggle in England. His lack of pace would be a burden to him if he eventually moves to United.
During the world cup finals against Argentina; we saw how he could not keep up his pace when Lionel Messi tried him by putting the ball ahead of him; he is not physically built to play in England because he doesn’t have height, but his ability to read play and make intelligent passes could see him thrive in a team with dogged defence.
