Chelsea are set to scupper Manchester United’s deal for Mario Gomez, according to reports.
The blues are currently in search for a striker when the winter transfer window opens in January and the latest name to be linked with the Stamford bridge club is Mario Gomez.
Early this week it was reported that the striker was on the verge of moving to Manchester United but Chelsea have reportedly joined the race to sign the striker as the blues hope they can beat their Old Trafford counterpart to the striker’s signature in January.
The Daily Star reports that Chelsea are considering Mario Gomez as an option to strengthen their strike force in January.
Gomez have been a top striker in Europe for many years, scoring not less than ten goals in seven straight seasons when he was at Germany.
The striker moved from Bayern Munich to Fiorentina but struggled to perform for the Italian side and he is already looking for a way out of Italy.
The striker is currently out on loan at Besiktas and he has eight goals to his name in just eleven appearances, with the striker not keen to return to Fiorentina, the Fiorence club is reportedly willing to sell the striker should a suitable offer arrive.
Should Chelsea sign the striker ahead of Manchester United it will be a repeat of the summer transfer window when the blues snapped Pedro out of the hands of Louis Van Gaal’s side.
