Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 17 years old midfielder DJ Buffonge whose full name is Darren Raekwon McIntosh-Buffonge.
The former Arsenal academy Youth player who moved to Fulham in 2010 has now put pen to paper for United on Friday after impressive showings for the Under 18s before being injured.
Buffonge is described as an energetic midfielder, creative and also very comfortable in possession of the ball, he has terrific pace; a feature United manager admitted he needs to add to his squad.
He has signed as a scholar after a successful trial. The ex-Fulham prospect assisted a goal in their season opener against West Brom, before sustaining a groin problem against Derby in late August. He had shown United’s coaches enough to get a deal with the Old Trafford outfit.
Buffonge is most certainly a player for the future, but his signing reinforces Van Gaal’s commitment to developing talented youths. Buffonge will be hoping to get his chance at first team appearances by progressing quickly through the ranks; Louis Van Gaal is known to give talented youngsters a chance to prove their qualities anywhere he has coached.
Recently, he included Axel Tuanzebe in the match day squad to face Crystal Palace; Borthwick-Johnson is another youngster that actually got game time against Westbrom at Old Trafford.
