Catalan giants Barcelona have joined the race to sign England defender John Stones.
Barcelona are now the latest side to be credited with a move for the former Barnsley defender, the Spanish giants have watched the defender in various occasions but are now willing to table a bid for the defender in order to sign him ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea.
Chelsea were interested in the defender last summer and saw three bids for the youngster rejected as Everton was determined to keep hold of one of their prize assets.
The defender was keen to move to Stamford bridge last summer, despite the failed move the 21 year old continues to draw plaudits with his superb performance for Everton and England.
Stones is highly rated and is seen as the best Central defender emerging from the country after the era of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry.
The Telegraph claims that Barcelona wanted to take a close look at him in England’s recent friendly matches against Spain and France, although he didn’t feature against Spain but the defender played a part in England’s 2-0 win against France and the Spanish giants are impressed by what they saw from the 21 year old.
Chelsea are reportedly willing to return for John Stones when the transfer window opens in January but will now have to battle it out with Barcelona and Manchester United who are also monitoring the defender’s situation at Everton.
John Stones joined Everton from Barnsley in 2013 in a deal worth around £5million.
