Arsenal are keen on triggering Nolito’s release clause during the winter transfer window, according to Spanish publication AS.
The paper claims that Luis Enrique has asked the Barcelona board to bring in Nolito in January as he looks to provide cover for Neymar, Suarez and Messi but the board will most likely turns else where due to the club’s financial situation, leaving Arsenal in pole position to sign the 29 year old.
Nolito has been linked with a move to Camp Nou as a replacement for Pedro Rodriguez who joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer in a £22million deal.
Barcelona showed interest in Nolito last summer but couldn’t sign the striker as a result of their transfer embargo, the move is now under serious threat due to the economic situation of the La liga giants.
The Mirror reported last month that Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid for Nolito in January that will see him sign the winger ahead of Barcelona; and the Gunners will be boosted by the news that Barcelona are ready to turn to cheaper options after considering Nolito will be too expensive for them.
Injuries to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey has increased the links between Arsenal and the Spanish winger. Nolito has scored 7 goals and created 4 goals for his teammates this season. Arsenal will reportedly tripple the player’s wages in order to lure him to England.
