Chelsea are preparing a bid for Paris Saint Germain full back Gregory Van der Wiel.
Le 10 sport claims Chelsea are looking to sign a defender as the Blues hope to get their season back on track and Van der Wiel has been identified as the man to help their course.
The blues were reportedly interested in the 27 year old in the summer transfer window but PSG refused to let the full back leave; but the West London club are willing to try again for the fullback when the transfer window opens in January.
Van der Wiel is in the last year of his contract with PSG, so the blues will be able to sign him for cheap in January or for free next summer.
Van der Wiel was displaced from PSG’s starting xi by Serge Aurier and the Dutch full back will be willing to leave the French club in search of regular football elsewhere. With Cesar Azpilicueta playing at left back, Van der Wiel will have to compete with Branislav Ivanovic for a spot in the blues starting xi.
Van der Wiel isn’t all that great in the defensive aspect of his game but his attacking aspect compliments his defensive deficiencies, he would be a decent addition to a Chelsea squad that is thin defensively in terms of squad depth.
Van der Wiel Joined PSG in 2012 and has since then played 77 games for the French club.
