According to the Sun, Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie has emerged as a shock transfer target for Manchester United. Louis Van Gaal had consistently admitted he needs to add pace and creativity into his side this January transfer window; and Matt Ritchie seems to fit the bill.
Ritchie was involved in 32 goals scored by Bournemouth in their quest to gaining promotion last season, scoring 15 of those goals and assisting on 17 occasions. Van Gaal has asked scouts to keep monitoring Ritchie’s performances for Bournemouth ahead of a potential bid in January.
Fulham placed a bid of £7M last January for the winger but the bid was turned down; but his value would have increased the more judging by his performance for Bournemouth this season. He has scored 2 times and assisted twice already this season.
In Louis Van Gaal wide men, only Juan Mata had created more chance than Ritchie this season, Mata had created 20 chances in 12 games while Ritchie had created 14 chances in the same number of games.
Southampton’s Saido Mane seem to be Van Gaal’s prime target; but Ritchie would be an easier acquisition considering Southampton may not want to sell Mane in the mid-season.
A bid of £15M would have the Bournemouth hierarchy’s attention to do business whereas; Mane would come for nothing less than 3 times that amount (£45M). So Ritchie would be a more feasible acquisition in January transfer window.
