Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United are set to battle for the signature of Sunderland under 21 goalkeeping sensation Jordan Pickford.
The 21 years old England international has made a big impression with the England under 21’s and he is now attracting interest from Manchester United and Tottenham due to his excellent form.
Pickford, currently on loan at championship side Preston North End has continued to excel in his loan stint by helping his team equal a club record for consecutive clean sheets in the game against Queens Park Rangers, Pickford snuffed out the threat of QPR attacking trio of Charlie Austin, Matt Phillips and Junior Hoilett; as they could not find a way past the talented young goalie.
Sunderland Coach, Sam Allardyce has continued to keep tab on Pickford’s progress at Preston and has tipped him to be Sunderland number one goalkeeper one day as the former Bolton Wanderers and West ham United Coach has no plans of selling the goal keeper.
United currently have Sam Johnston as a youth goal keeper and he is just 22 years of age; accidentally, Johnston was also on loan at Preston North End last season on a six months loan deal which led to the club gaining promotion via play-off after defeating Swindon Town.
It would be interesting to see if Louis Van Gaal would want to bring another goal keeper with future prospect to the Theatre of dreams; but first, Sunderland will have to be willing to part ways with the talented goalie tipped to be the future number one at the Stadium of light and secondly, United would have to outbid Spurs which is not something difficult as United has more Financial muscle to flex than the Londoners.
