Man Utd vs Middlesbrough: Player Ratings, Man Of The Match & 3 SHOCK Flop Of The Match

United were dumped out of the Capital One cup by Middlesbrough at Old Trafford,

Here is how the players’ rated.

Sergio Romero (7.0)

Apart from one error where he miss to trap the ball after a back pass which almost creped into the net, the Argentine kept United in the tie with some very vital saves, the one of note was in the extra time when Middlesbrough striker was through on goal and attempted to chip the ball above the goalkeeper but Romero saved smartly.

Chris Smalling (6.0)

Struggled to cope sometimes with the pace and trickery of the Middlesbrough forward players but still put in a strong performance as we have always seen all through the season

Daley Blind (6.0)

Had nothing to do all through the game, and provided cover for Rojo whenever he was out of poition

Marcos Rojo (6.0)

The Argentine held his position strong but was substituted at halftime, don’t see the reason for his substitution though.

Mateo Damien (6.0)

Was very supportive in the United attack from the right flank, put in lots of crosses but none was accurate enough to find the United attackers. The physical nature of the English game is getting to him.

Andreas Pereira (6.0)

Led the United midfield and orchestrated most of the play, showed great composure when he got the ball but was too ambitious and indecisive at times.

Michael Carrick (5.0)

Disappointing all through the game, failed to impose himself and capped a woeful night was a missed spot kick.

Marouane Fellaini (6.0)

His presence charted United attack to one pattern, United kept lunching the ball into the box just because of the tall Belgian and it made it easy for the Middlesbrough goal keeper and defence to deal with. He had couple of chances to score, one from a half volley that was well blocked and couple of header that went wide

Jesse Lingard (6.5)

One of the shining light in the United squad, had too much to do and was heavily man marked by the Middlesbrough defence, but he still managed to impose himself in the game.  He almost won the game for United when his half volley clattered the side of the goalpost.

Memphis Depay (4.0)

The Dutch man was the worst player on the pitch; he contributed nothing to the team, lost possession on countless occasions. He shouldn’t have come out for the second half after failing to sparkle but was left on the pitch for 70 minutes. He missed a good chance to score after doing one thing right all night.

James Wilson (5.0)

Didn’t take part in any meaningful action all through his 45 minutes on the field, was short of supply from the wide areas and midfield. Not entirely his fault

Wayne Rooney (5.0)

What more can we say about the skipper? Poor runs, ambitious shots and missed the first spot kick. He did fairly okay when he came to the midfield. The coach should play him more in the midfield to help him feel relevant in the squad.

Ashley Young (5.0)

He was given a torrid time by the Middlesbrough right wing player, put in few crosses and capped off an average performance with a miss in the spot kick.

Anthony Martial (6.5)

If Manchester United were to get a goal in the game it would have come from the young Frenchman. He was a torn in the flesh of the Middlesbrough backline. He had two players marking him all through and still attacked. If he had started the game maybe the outcome would have been different.
