The 170th Manchester derby failed to live up to its billing as one of the most interesting derbies to watch in world football. Both teams put up a disappointing performance leaving the neutrals with no excitement and the Manchester fans little to talk
It will be fair to say that the 0-0 score line was a fair result as both teams didn’t do enough to walk away with all 3 points.
Here is how Manchester United players rated after the match:
David Degea (6.0)
David De Gea had little to do all through the game and wasn’t tested in a match were chances were surprisingly few.
Chris Smalling (6.5)
Chris Smalling did just enough to cage the City attacking trio of Raheem Sterling, Wilfried Bony and Kevin De Bruyne. Smalling had a headed attempt which missed the goal narrowly.
Did fairly okay in the game and he is forming a solid partnership with Chris Smalling in the United defence. Good to see that his injury worries are gradually becoming a thing of the past
Antonio Valencia (6.0)
Preferred over Mateo Damian in recent games and held his position firmly, also supported the United attack, gave Kolarov a tough time but was wayward with his final balls
Marcos Rojo (6.0)
This was a better performance from Rojo, similar to the one put in against Everton. He kept De bruyne in check and also supported the attack with some nice pull out crosses.
Morgan Schneiderlin (6.0)
The French defensive midfielder put in another energetic performance in the midfield and provided adequate protection to the United backline
Bastian Schweinsteiger (6.0)
The German marshalled the United midfield with good ball retention and distribution. Not a bad performance in his first Manchester derby.
Ander Hererra (6.0)
Herrera is a different class of player in the United creative role, his work rate and ability to get into dangerous position is outstanding; although City didn’t give him room to play as much as he could as Fernandinho kept tracking him down.
Juan Mata (5.0) FoTM
Disappointing performance from Mata, was missiong in action for United in the game and had to make way for Jesse Lingard.
Anthony Martial (6.5) MoTM
City backline knew they are in for it with Martial in the United line up, his touches and threat got City duo of Kompay and Fernandinho into the referees book
Wayne Rooney (5.5)
Wayne Rooney gave the City defence very little to worry about and was hardly involved in the game. Its time the United skipper is dropped to give young striker Wilson a chance.
Jesse Lingard (6.5)
A little above 25 minutes appearance for Jesse when he replaced the ineffective Mata and almost became a hero when he nearly scored from a Martial assist, the woodwork denied him. He’s looking like he is a contender to Juan Mata’s current position at the right flank.
Marouane Fellaini (6.0)
I felt the manager should have started Fellaini today after putting in a series of impressive substitute appearances or at least brought him in earlier in the second half than he did. His presence in the box would have given Kompany and Otamendi a different kind of problem to worry about and Martial would have thrived if City was under pressure.
Mateo Damian (5.5)
Had little to do in just a little over 10 minutes and its looking like the pace and the physical nature of premiership is gradually telling on the young Italian as Valencia is now preferred to himFollow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
