Chelsea lost at Upton Park this afternoon 2 – 1. Jose Mourinho’s side fought bravely in the game after going 1 man down but came out of the game empty handed.
Here are the four things learnt as Chelsea lost to West Ham.
Hazard needs to buckle up
The Belgian started for the blues at West Ham today in the absence of Pedro, but the Belgian did nothing of note, he had so many misplaced passes.
Even when the team was on the back foot, he rarely helped the team at the back leaving pocket of spaces behind for West Ham to attack. The Belgian must improve if he wants to remain in the starting xi.
Diego Costa is a special asset to the team
The striker did all he could today to get his team up when they were on the back foot. The striker had a disciplined display and worked hard throughout the game. He might not be as skillful as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero but Costa’s hardworking display makes him one of the very best in the Premier league.
Lack of Pace is becoming a problem
The lack of pace in Jose’s Mourinho’s team was evident today as the blues couldn’t really get things going. They caused problems for West Ham but lacked speed in moving the ball coupled with poor decision making.
The lack of pace in the back line is also a problem as the blues could not deal with the pace of Payet and Sakho today, it was also evident as Matic received two bookings for pulling his opponent from behind.
Willian is key
The Brazilian had a good game today and Jose Mourinho needs to start building his team around the Brazilian. Willian was unlucky not to get an assist to his name as Fabregas goal was ruled out for offside.
With Hazard’s poor form, the blues will do well if the in-form Brazilian is made the main man in the team.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
