Manchester United players rating against CSKA Moscow on Match day 3 UEFA Champions league.
Manchester United got a deserved 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow at the Arena Khimki Stadium in Moscow in the UEFA Champions league Group B clash on Wednesday.
Here is how the players rated:
David De Gea (7.5)
De Gea did what De Gea always do “save United’s blushes”. He kept out CSKA Moscow first half penalty and was also at alert to tip over Ahmed Musa’s curler in the second half. But there was nothing he could do to keep out Seydou Doumbia rebounded effort.
Antonio Valencia (6.0)
A make shift right back position for the energetic and pacy player and he did put on a great performance, causing problem for the CSKA left back with his runs and crosses which eventually led to Martial leveller
Marcos Rojo (5.0) FoTM
Disappointing performance from the Argentine after an impressive performance at the weekend against Everton. Offered little assistant to Martial on the left flank and was caught out of position for the penalty.
Phil Jones (5.5)
After allowing Seydou Doumbia to respond fastest to Degea’s penalty save to put the ball in the back of the net, Jones did very well, showing a great burst of pace against Musa and also going forward. He deserves his place along side Smalling at the moment.
Chris Smalling (7.0) MoTM
Smalling can do no wrong at the moment, he keeps churning in top notch performance week in week out. This is why Sir Alex Ferguson went all out to snap him from Fulham in his teenage year. He simply marshalled the United back line and kept the CSKA Moscow attackers at bay.
Bastian Schweinsteiger (5.0)
Good ball retention but failed to lift the tempo after United went a goal down. Age and the freezing condition was too much for the German midfield maestro and had to make way at half time.
Morgan Schneiderlin (6.0)
Had an equally poor first half, but with the introduction of Fellaini and Herrera take up the NO 10 role, Schneiderlin had room to boss the CSKA Moscow midfield like he loves doing.
Jesse Lingard (6.0)
Did pretty well in his first ever UEFA Champions league outing, show some flashes of brilliance and provided adequate cover for Valencia at the right back.
Anders Herrera (6.5)
Fairly improved performance in the second half, a replica of his performance against Everton, dropping into position and picking the gaps created by opponents, had more freedom in the introduction of Fellaini. His great vision was evident in his pass to Valencia for United goal
Anthony Martial (7.0)
Was United star performer on the night, caused CSKA all sort of problems with his direct run at the opposition defence. He conceded a needless penalty but redeemed his image by scoring the equaliser with a diving header from a Valencia cross
Wayne Rooney (5.5)
Isolated up front and was no threat to the CSKA Moscow defence. Had a disappointing header straight to the goal keeper and his work rate has dropped drastically. He needs to seat on the bench to give Martial chance to flourish in the striking position.
Marouane Fellaini (6.5)
His introduction swinged the pendulum in United’s favour. He brought stability and offered a different kind of threat to the one offered by CSKA Moscow. He controlled the ball with his chest around the box and tracked back to cut off CSKA counter attacking threat.
Daley Blind (5.5)
Didn’t do too much but he showed he could spring passes from the back to the forward line. He should be used more often rather than Rojo as he carried a more attacking threat in the absence of luke shaw
Memphis Depay (5.0)
Had little time to affect the game, but he needs to start playing good football. His show bolting and indecision would soon cause him his place in the team
