Why This Off-form Chelsea Striker Should Lead The Front- Line Against Villa

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be faced with a selection dilemma on Saturday as his troops face fellow struggling side Aston Villa.

The Blues have his three strikers fully fit and with the three of them struggling to find the back of the net lately, who should the boss choose to lead the line against Aston Villa?

Diego Costa is a proven goal scorer and was the club’s highest goal scorer with 20goals last season even though the striker had injury troubles. Loic Remy acted as a capable back-up for the Spanish international and was crucial as the blues went on to win their first EPL trophy since 2010.

Falcao who was brought in this summer as a replacement for club legend Didier Drogba was one of the most prolific strikers in the world until his loan move to Manchester united failed and the striker is hoping to do well at England for the second time. The blues aim to get their season back on track and Jose can’t afford to make any mistake but it’s best if he starts with Diego Costa on Saturday.

First, It is well known that the blues will be better off with Diego Costa leading the line, Diego Costa scored 19 league goals for the blues last season despite missing lot of games last season due to injuries and suspension. Loic Remy managed to score 8 league goals last season from the bench while Radamel Falcao had a frustrating season at Manchester united scoring 4 goals throughout the season, the strikers quality has been tested and trusted in the EPL after a wonderful season for the blues last season..

Apart from the fact that he is the best striker the blues have got, he is also the one that poses the most threat to opposition defenders. The striker’s movement, physicality and goal threat is always a source of worry for defenders facing the striker. Also, the blues last won a match this season with Diego Costa in the starting xi, the 27 year old basically sent off Arsenal’s Gabriel in that tie and it gave the blues the advantage to press on and win the game.

Despite missing three games as a result of suspension both Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy were unable to take advantage of the Spanish international absence as the two back up strikers failed to score a goal. In those games that the blues played without Diego Costa they clearly missed the spark upfront and couldn’t just do anything good in the attacking third.

Diego Costa is also the well-rested of the trio, he just came back from serving three match suspension and wasn’t involved in the last international break which would see the striker in a fine condition to face Tim Sherwood’s side.

Finally Jose Mourinho recently stressed the need of having tall players on the pitch due to the fact that most EPL teams poses great area threat, with Diego Costa not only the best striker in the squad, the striker is also the tallest striker in the squad carrying a better ariel threat which would help the team in defending and attacking set pieces.

Starting Diego Costa at the bridge will improve Mourinho’s squad a lot and would boost the team. The blues face Aston Villa on saturday in a 3pm kick off match.
