Chelsea are preparing a January transfer move for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas who is also targeted by Arsenal, according to reports.
The centre-back has been on the Blues radar for a long time and it is reported that the club are now ready to pull out all stops to sign the Greek international when the transfer window opens in January.
Some reports in Italy claim Jose Mourinho’s side had been knocked back after a deadline day bid for the defender. However, Chelsea signed Papy Djilobodji who is yet to make a single appearance for the west London club.
Reports in Italy claim that Jose Mourinho’s men will make a renewed effort to sign Manolas in January and Calcio Mercato claims that a bid is being readied for the Roma defender who is seen as one of the alternatives to John Stones in the clubs pursuit for captain John Terry’s long term replacement.
John Terry is said to be nearing the exit and might be allowed to leave the west London club at the end of this season which puts Chelsea in a desperate Position to get a replacement for the 34year old.
Four bids were rejected for John Stones in the summer and Everton still look unlikely to sell the English defender in January.
Chelsea are ready to test the resolve of the Merseyside club but are willing to turn to other options if the Toffees stand firm over the England international’s move.
Kostas Manolas has made 37 appearances for Roma scoring one goal. Arsenal were said to be interested in the Greek international last summer but were rebuffed by the Serie A side.
