Chelsea duo Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic were forced to limp out of Serbia’s 2-0 win over Albania in their European 2016 qualifiers.
The blues who are currently without first choice goalie Thibaut Courtois have been dealt a serious blow when Ivanovic sustained a harmstring injury in the 65th minute while playing as a centre back for Serbia, Nemanja Matic followed 8minutes later with a similar complaint according to The Mirror.
Branislav Ivanovic who made the PFA team of the year after series of wonderful performances from the right back position for Chelsea last season as the west London club went on to win the Barclays Premier League trophy has struggled for form this season.
Despite his poor form this season, Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho has kept faith in the 31-year- old Serbian international and his injury would come as a big blow for the special one.
Nemanja Matic who also was a key component in the club’s first team last season forming a solid partnership with Cesc Fabregas has also struggled to replicate his form last season and has been left out of the starting XI in some games and was even withdrawn midway the game against Southampton having replaced Ramires at half time.
Both players will be assessed in order to ascertain the extent of the injuries before a decision will be taken on whether they will return to Chelsea for treatment. Chelsea will host fellow strugglers Aston villa after the international break. The blues can’t afford to drop points anymore and need to kick start their season against Aston villa.Follow Football News Arena on Facebook and Twitter for the latest transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from across the major Leagues in Europe and around the World.
