LATEST: Mourinho Set To Land Man Utd Key Target In January To Solve Defensive Woes

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to land Barcelona and Manchester United target and Brazilian defender Marquinhos from Paris Saint Germain in January as Jose Mourinho looks to make improvements to his failing side.

After a disastrous start to the season that has been characterized by woeful defensive performances and has left the west London club 16th on the EPL table, Mourinho is now keen to bolster his defensive options by signing PSG defender Marquinhos.

After failing in their attempt to sign Everton’s John stones last summer, the Blues reportedly made a £31m deadline day bid for the Brazil Central defender last summer which was swiftly rejected by the Ligue 1 Champions. And Chelsea went on to sign Papy Djilodbodji from Nantes and Michael Hector from reading, neither of which were in Jose Mourinho’s wish list, with the former not making a single appearance yet and the latter Loaned back to reading.

Le10sport claims that Chelsea is ready to return for Marquinhos in January and are willing to go beyond their £31m deadline day bid, as Everton remains unlikely to sell John Stones anytime soon.

Chelsea’s chances of signing the Brazilian international could be helped by the defender’s desire to play regular football after finding himself 3rd in the pecking order in his club behind fellow Compatriots Thiago Silva and David Luiz and the fact that Marquinhos had already been advised by former Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain defender to leave the French capital in order to fulfill his potential could also play a part in swaying the defender’s decision.

Barcelona and Manchester United are said to be interested in the former Corinthians ace and are preparing a summer bid for the centre defender.

Whether Chelsea, Barcelona or Manchester United signs the Brazilian with eight international caps in the January transfer window remains to be seen.
