Arsene Wenger has drawn up a shortlist of three centre backs as he attempts to strengthen the defense before the transfer window closes next week.
The boss has been working on a deal to sign Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi but is set to turn to other targets after being frustrated with the Spanish club’s asking price.
According to the Telegraph, Arsene Wenger has drawn up a three man list which includes Villareal’s Mateo Musacchio and Roma’s Kostas Manolas.
Musacchio is the latest defender being considered by Wenger and the French tactician would attempt to begin talks with Villareal. Musacchio was Gabriel’s teammate at the Spanish club before the latter completed a move to the Emirates and they could be reunited this summer.
Kostas Manolas is another name on Wenger’s list and the club could attempt to sign the Greek international whom it has been monitoring all summer. Roma had told the club they were not prepared to sell the defender but Arsenal would test their resolve again after the Italian side failed to qualify for the Champions League group stages.
It is unclear if the third name on Wenger’s list is Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi who is being regarded as the boss’ priority target or another player. However, the club are still negotiating a deal to sign the German.
