Chelsea and Manchester United transfer target Ruben Neves has dealt a blow to Premier League champions’ hope of luring him to Stamford Bridge next summer. The Midfielder wants to remain at Porto for the foreseeable future having made it through the ranks from the youth team to the first team, Neves is keen on winning trophies with the Portuguese giants.
Neves can be described as a player that could be deployed as a holding midfielder or play further up the pitch, and who possesses excellent vision and passing skill. Neves hold the record for the youngest Portuguese player to ever play in the UEFA champions’ league at 17 years 5months and eight days; and made history again when he captained Porto against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA champions’ league.
Despite reported interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, Neves remained insistent that he can’t see his immediate future anywhere else than at the Estadio do Dragao in his pursuit to win trophies. The Gunners have been repeatedly linked with a £22 Million move for the youngster but Neves has a release clause of £30 Million and he is under contract with Porto till June 2019.
The youngster has a £29 Million release clause on his current contract and it would be interesting to see what transpires if the release clause is triggered by any interested club, with the Blues keen on rebuilding their squad under new caretaker boss, Guus Hiddink; a bid should be in place come January transfer window.
