Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign Napoli winger Dries Mertens, according to reports.
Mertens, 28, has been in superb form for the Italian side and has scored six goals in as many appearances for Napoli.
The winger’s performances have not gone unnoticed and he has found a suitor in the Premier league with Liverpool keen on the former PSV forward.
According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are preparing a £13m bid for the Belgian international.
The player’s contract at Napoli expires in 2018 and the Serie A club are keen to offer the winger a new contract.
But the Belgian international is reportedly not interested in signing a new contract at the moment because he is considering leaving Italy, as per Calcio Mercato.
And the Daily Star via Fichajes now claims Liverpool have been alerted to the winger’s situation and are ready to table a bid of £13m in order to secure the services of the 28 year old winger.
However dealing with Aurelio De Laurentiis could be very difficult, the Napoli chief is known for getting the largest possible fee he can get for his star players like in the case of Ezequel Lavezzi and Edison Cavani.
With the chief reportedly not willing to sell Mertens, Liverpool might be forced to pay a fee larger than the rumoured £13m.
Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing the winger also but Liverpool lead the chase for the 28 year old.
