Chelsea had a bid rejected for Bologna’s defensive midfielder Amadou Diawara, according to the Metro.
Earlier in the season, Italian publication TMW reported that Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea were serious about signing Diawara and will be hoping they can lure the midfielder to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens in January.
But the Metro now sites Corriere di Bologna who claims the Blues have had a £14.5million bid for the midfielder’s services rejected.
The reports also claim Manchester City also submitted a bid for the midfielder but Manuel Pelligrini’s men were turned down and the Italian club is looking to tie the player to a new long term contract.
The report also claims Bologna believes the midfielder will be worth over £35million (€48.5m) in the next one year and they are keen to keep hold of the 18 year old.
Diawara moved to Bologna from San Marino last summer and has since then impressed with his performances.
Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing a midfielder next month and Bologna would have dealt the Portuguese a big blow by rejecting the club’s bid. The Portuguese is looking to improve his squad after a poor start to the current season.
