Chelsea have entered the race to sign Sadio Mane from Southampton, according to reports.
The Champions are keen on the winger who was influential in Southampton’s 3-1 win over them in September.
Manchester United were interested in signing the 23 year old last summer but The Saints were not ready to lose the winger. Mane has gone on to score six times in 17 appearances for The Saints this term.
The Daily Mirror now reports that Chelsea are interested in signing the winger as they attempt to improve their squad for the second half of the season.
Chelsea have identified Mane as a key target as the club search for attacking options to improve the squad due to the inconsistent form of Eden Hazard and Oscar this season, it has also been reported that summer signing Pedro has failed to adapt to life in London and will be looking for a way back to Spain in January.
Southampton’s boss Ronald Koeman is already preparing for his star man’s exit and the manager said after the winger’s performance against Chelsea in September:
“Maybe one day we will lose Mane but then we have to be prepared,”
“You know in our situation that kind of player, if they play like today, there will come a lot of interest in the end of the season, but now we enjoy watching Mane in our team.”
Mane signed a four year contract with The Saints after he joined from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of about £11.8million
