Ordinarily, the Capital One Cup competition is meant to discover talents and give younger players opportunity to develop. But in recent times, some big clubs see it as their only shot at silver ware.
Manchester united should be able to rest a couple of their key players for this fixture; but as Louis Van Gaal found out last season against MK Dons, fixtures such as this appear easy but upsets do occur. As much as United would want to win the Capital One trophy; they should be able to give other players chance to impress the manager. So here is how I feel the team would line up.
Sergio Romerio: The Argentine should replace David De Gea in goal, his first appearance for United since De Gea was recalled to the starting line-up.
Daley Blind should return to the United line up to partner Phil Jones, Smalling should be rested for this game.
Matteo Darmian: With Antonio Valencia’s foot injury picked up in the Manchester derby Darmian should return to the right hand position.
Marcos Rojo should retain his position at left back after putting up an impressive showing against City
Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini should replace the duo of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin in the midfield role.
Jesse Lingard has put in a series of impressive substitute appearance and will be looking to get his first full 90 minutes since returning from injury
Memphis Depay will get his call up back to the first team and must up his game if he is to get back to the starting line up
Pereira should be drafted behind the striker as he normal plays for his Brazilian national team. He can score and also create goal, Martial should return to the striking position for this encounter.
