Manchester United travels to Moscow to face CSKA Moscow in tonight’s Match day 3 showdown at Arena Khimki stadium. United have a found memory of Moscow,a city where they won their 3rd UEFA champions league title in 2008 against premier league rivals Chelsea.
Here is the 11 players that I think would do the battle for Manchester United tonight
Spanish goalkeeping sensation David De gea is expected to remain in goal for the red devils despite having Argentine Sergio Romero back from injury. Since returning to the starting line up for Manchester United after his transfer to Spanish giant Real Madrid failed to materialise, Degea has made the No1 position his own with series of super saves and is a sure bet to retain his position in the side.
I expect Marcos Rojo to hold on to the left back position in the abscence of the injured Luke Shaw. Rojo put in a strong performance in his first appearance for United against Everton at the weekend, nullifying the threat of Aaron lenon and bursting forward to supply a sublime cross for Herrera’s headed goal.
Rojo’s physical and aggressive nature would be vital in quelling the threat provided by former United player Zoran Tosic.
Matteo Damien has put up some impressive performances for United since he made the move from Torino in the last transfer window. But he will have to be in his utmost best to keep the pacy Nigerian winger Ahmed Musa quiet all through this encounter.
Chris Smalling is fast becoming one of the finest central defender in the modern games with outstanding defencive showing so far this season, so it is expected to have him martial the defence for United tonight, it will be an interesting duel between Smalling and CSKA ivorian strike Doumbia. Phil Jones should a better alternative to partner Smalling in the heart of the United defence, Jones has been out for a long time but has been fautless since his return from injury and his douggedness should be enough to keep Daley Blind on the bench provided He stays fit.
Morgan schneiderlin put on an impressive performance against Everton with some energetic display making Gareth Barry and Ross Barkley ineffective in the midfield.
Bastian Schweinsteiger’s experience and ball control would be very vital in this class if United are to retain position and frustrate CSKA Moscow.
ATTACKING MIDFIELD AND WINGERS
Anders Herrera should retain his position behind the lone striker Rooney, with his energetic runs and box to box runs; Herrera fits the bill. Mata and Martial should run the left and right flanks respectively to provide width for United.
Wayne Rooney did enough to shut his critics by scoring against Everton and has earned his place in the striking position ahead of James Wilson who is the only other recognised striker left and isn’t fit to travel with the squad.
